The Brand Silka

Calcium silicate blocks have proven themselves in use over decades and are among the most traditional of building materials. The beginnings of their production and initial applications go back to the year 1898. The calcium silicate block, a rediscovered classic among building materials, today enjoys tremendous popularity. The Silka calcium silicate block is the latest brand in the Xella product portfolio. Initially introduced in Poland in 1995, Silka has since become the international brand for the calcium silicate block activities of the Xella Group.

This building material is composed of lime, sand and water. Raw materials that occur everywhere in the world around us and that contain no chemicals or poisonous substances. Only a small amount of energy is required for their production. There are no environmentally damaging residual products nor are there any polluting emissions. The sand and gravel pits are largely recultivated following extraction, or are used as biotopes or recreational areas.

Whether its extremely hot or bitingly cold outside – a solid calcium silicate block building will always maintain the interior temperature at a comfortable level – pleasantly cool in summer, cosy and warm in winter. This is because highly insulated external walls and solid interior walls of calcium silicate block equalise changes in temperature. Silka also possesses excellent noise insulation properties thanks to its high bulk density. When you build using solid wall construction, then the noise stays outside.

The excellent resistance to frost exhibited by Silka exposed masonry furthermore guarantees permanent, weather-resistant facades. Certified exterior wall construction makes a considerable contribution to a sustainably low energy consumption for an improved quality of life.

There is hardly another building material that can be used to economically construct slim, solid walls.
